Janice Lui takes home the MVP hardware as the West All-Stars defeat the East

Basketball World Toronto hosted the Women’s Division Winter 2014 All Star game on Tuesday April 8th on the Toronto Raptors practice court at the Air Canada Center.

The game featured the best talent in the city, playing head to head in a game featuring the East and West All-Stars. Offense was on display in the first quarter with both teams shooting a high percentage from the field, leading to a 16-10 lead for the Western All-Stars.  The fast pace continued in the second quarter as the East were able to break into the lead and trailed the West by 4 points, 24-20 at halftime.

Sylisha Powel (#2) 10 points, and Aleia Gland (#12) 8 points, carried the offense for the West in the second half and continued to battle their All Star opponents down the wire. Adjustments were made by both coaches after the third quarter, adjustments that must have energized the East squad as they came out firing in the fourth quarter. Playing a great team system and turning defense into easy transition points, the East squad was able to cut into the lead and get the game to within 2 points with less than 2 minutes remaining. The game would come down to the final possession, with the Eastern All-Stars controlling their destiny. With the ball in the air with no time remaining, both teams waited anxiously for the outcome. The ball rimmed out.

Clutch rebounding by Valerie Samson and Malissa Lundgren, in addition to great decision making by Janice Lui helped the West hold off the East All, to take home the Winter 2014 Women Division All star game with a 43-41 victory.

West All Star Janice Lui (#1) took home the MVP hardware with 6 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 4 steals. BWT would like to congratulate all players selected to the All Star game, the fans in attendance and the Toronto Raptors.
