Basketball World Toronto Womens Winter 2014 Championship Game was played on Monday April 14th at St Mary’s Secondary School. The game featuring Dolce and Tronin Yo, proved to be a great matchup of talent and would end with a spectacular finish for all the fans in attendance to witness.

Dolce opened the game with a strong defensive presence, leading 8-4 after 12 minutes. Transitioning into the second quarter, Dolce continued their dominance taking the lead 20-15 into halftime.

Nivel Pastrana (#11) and Anne Pastrana (#3) of Dolce continued their strong offensive performances in the second half, helping Dolce maintain the lead. It wasn’t until the 5 minute mark in the third quarter that Tronin Yo, lead by Gillian Maxwell (#31) started to pick up their play, and closed the quarter on a quick 4-0 run.

Alisha Tatham (#11) and Melanie Belore (#4) helped to pick up the offensive for Tronin Yo, which controlled the defense in the fourth quarter, leading to easy transition baskets. Costly turnovers and an inability to knock down free throws down the stretch, Tronin Yo (17-6 in the fourth quarter) was able to gain the lead late in the quarter and hold off a 19 point performance by Niveal Pastrana (#11) and a  last minute shot by Dolce to win the Winter 2014 Basketball World Toronto Women’s Division Championship.

The MVP of the game was #31 Gillian Maxwell of Dolce with a  team high 12 points, 6 rebounds, 1 steal and 1 block. BWT would like to congratulate Tronin Yo on the championship, and thank all teams and players for a great season.
