ParticipACTION teams up with BWT

Basketball World Toronto's (BWT) Youth Day came back but this time with a more community-oriented approach. This spring BWT partnered with ParticipACTION and their Community Better Challenge to help use our Youth Day as a stepping stone for increased physical activity and togetherness in communities across Toronto, and Canada as a whole. The goal of this challenge was to showcase and promote exercise within neighborhoods across the country while uniting these communities in the process. As a community of our own, we too value the promotion of activity and togetherness - holding ourselves to the standard of preserving both of these concepts as pillars for success across all of our leagues and events. Since Youth Day is a celebration of all of our Youth House League programs we thought of no better way to engage both the athletes as well as their families in an initiative we so passionately support.

What did this mean for Youth Day? Everything ran as per usual besides the fact that participants and attendees tracked their minutes by taking part in the Community Better Challenge, using the day as their first entry for the campaign. The challenge started only the day before Youth Day (Friday, May 31st) so it was a perfect way to kick off a healthy routine of physical activity for not only the month but also the entire summer moving forward.

RESULTS: Toronto, sadly, did not win the title of one of the most active communities in Canada but if you are curious who did we encourage you to check out ParticipACTION's press release which recaps the challenge and its inaugural year. We want to thank those of our attendees who did participate and hope to continue providing you with events and initiatives such as these to further the development of our community as a whole.
