The First SMART Basketball Shoe

Welcome To The Future Of Basketball

On Tuesday, January 15th, 2019, Nike and spokesperson Jayson Tatum of the Boston Celtics announced its newest auto-lacing smart shoe that is specifically made for the basketball court. While this is not Nike's first auto-lacing shoe, as the Nike Mags as well as the multipurpose Nike Hyperadapt 1.0, released back in 2016 and systematically tightened the shoe through responsive pressure on the heel, it is their first attempt at a technologically "smart" and high-performance shoe made specifically for basketball.

The updated technology used to power the Nike Adapt BB is specifically designed to counter swelling in the feet of players which can cause the shoes to become too small during certain moments of a game and ultimately impact the players comfort and movement. Naturally, the biggest question that arises from this, is how it all works? Well, upon stepping into the Nike Adapt BB, it automatically senses the amount of pressure needed in order for your foot to be comfortable yet snug. Using Nike's power-lacing technology as well as the firmware on the sneakers' app or by manually touching the sneaker itself, players can adjust the tightness or looseness for specific moments in a game such as during or after a timeout and even after sustaining a minor cramp.

Unlike its predecessors, the Nike Adapt BB will be retailing for a relatively more affordable $350 USD as opposed to $720 USD. The Nike Adapt BB will be releasing on February 17th, 2019.
