The first woman to coach a men's pro team

Chantal Vallée, head coach of the University of Windsor women’s basketball team, is breaking Canadian basketball history, as she was appointed to become the head coach and general Manager (GM) of the men’s pro team - Hamilton Honey Badgers.

Vallée is in her 14th year of coaching and her accomplishments are impressive. She has a career winning percentage of .791 (351-93) and has guided the Lancers to 5 consecutive National Championships between 2011 and 2015.

“I am honoured and excited to be taking on the challenge of serving as head coach and general manager of the Hamilton Honey Badgers in the first year of Canada’s new professional basketball league,” said Vallee in a team-released statement.

“What I’m excited about is that people of both genders can be hired on the basis of their ability and their credentials. You can be hired based on your track record.”, stressed Vallée.

As a growing basketball organization, this event brought more excitement and hope as we see this as inspirational for both our women and young girl participants to take part in sport and to realize the opportunity for professional growth there can be in sport.
