BWT's Women's League - Winter 2010 - League Championship Game was held this past Friday April 9th, 2010 at the Air Canada Centre - Toronto Raptors Main Court. The game featured perennial favourite Mean Green vs. the Sparks in a competitive matchup as they fought it out for BWT`s Women`s Championship title.

The game was a very competitive matchup of two evenly balanced teams. Mean Green was led by their League MVP Ange Mbikay and balanced playmakers of Kash Labaziewicz (#22) and sharp shooter Stefanie Pojrazova (#23). The Sparks countered with the league`s 2nd leading scorer Katie Murray (#9), solid inside play from Anne-Marie King (#10) and a former MVP Julie McGoey (#32). As the game got under way both teams started to feel each other out. Ange from Mean Green started off hot slashing the Sparks defense as she scored 14 points quickly. The Sparks were more balanced and were led by Katie Murray (#9) with 10 points and Anne-Marie King (#10) with 8. As the clock winded down in the first half, the Sparks held a small lead 22-20.

As the second half got under way the Sparks kept pouring it on with 12 points from K. Murray (#9) and 10 from A. King (#10).  Mean Green tried to mount a comeback with 8 points from Mbikay (#8) and 7 from K. Labaziewicz (#22), but it was not enough.  The Sparks closed out the game winning the Championship Title 48-34. The MVP of the Playoffs/Finals was Anne-Marie King (#10) who finished with 18 points, 15 rebounds and 7 blocks as she controlled the paint for the entire game.

BWT would like to officially announce the presentation of the Division Champions trophy and the MVP Award for BWT's WInter 2010 - Women's Division.

The Division Trophy was awarded to Mean Green. Accepting the award was the entire Mean Green team.

The MVP Award was awarded to Ange Mbikay (#8) who finished the regular season with 20.2 Points per game, 4.5 steals per game, 4.0 assists per game and 6.6 rebounds per game.

Congratulations to Mean Green and Ange Mbikay on their achievements this season.

BWT Women's - Player of The Week

The award was given to Anne-Marie King of the Sparks. King scored 27 points, contributed 4 blocks, 1 assists and 18 rebounds as her team defeated the 1st place squad Mean Green. Ranked 3rd overall in the division in scoring Anne-Marie has helped her team secure the 2nd place spot in the division and position them for a big run in the playoffs. King will be called upon again this week as her team plays their first playoff game against the Misfits. Congratulations and good luck in the playoffs.

The award was given to Siobban Reynolds of UCONN (Team Navy). Reynolds helped her team upset the first place team in a nail-biting win as her team won 48-46. On Saturday, February 20th, 2010, Basketball World Toronto was proud to present BWT's Women's Winter 2010 All-Star Game. This game was jam packed with excitement right from the tip as we were witness to a see-saw battle from the first whistle to the final horn. Neither team ever led by more than 6 points and the fans knew they were in for a last second finish from mid way through the first half.

As the game started off, both teams looked to share the ball as the scoring was very balanced for both sides with Kristina Anzlinger (#5) leading the way with 6 points for the East All-Stars in the white jerseys'. Katie Murray (#9) led the way for the West All-Stars with 9 points, while continuing her clutch shooting from the free-throw line shooting 3-4 in the first half. At the half, the West All-Stars held a slight lead of 22-20.

As the second half got under way, the coaches from both squads looked to make some halftime adjustments. Both teams tightened up the defense with the goal of trying to limit the fast breaks which proved to be challenges both squads. The second half was shaping up to be an instant classic with both sides trading baskets and neither team never jumping ahead by more than 4 points. The stars of the game came out to shine in the second half with team leader Katie Murray (#9) of the West leading the charge with 8 points and Stefanie Pojrazova (#21) heating up from the field with a pair of deep 2's and a 3-pointer. The game went down to the wire and free-throws decided the final outcome with Katie Murray sealing the victory with a shot from the line which put her team ahead for good at 40-38. Katie was also named MVP of the game shooting 6-13 from the field and 5-8 from the line for 17 points. She also chipped in with 3 steals, 1 assist & 5 offensive rebounds.

At half-time of BWT's Winter 2010 All-Star Game, BWT's 3-Point Contest took place for both Men and Women. The contest started off with Katie Murray (22.2%) of the Sparks shooting first, Ange Mkibay (33.3%)of Mean Green shooting second and her teammate, current league leader in 3PT %, Stefanie Pojrazova (46.2%) shooting last. Katie made 3 shots, Ange made 4, but it all came down to Stefanie who put up quite the long-distance display connecting on 14 attempts including a run of 6 consecutively which put a stamp on her claim as the Women's 3PT champ.

The award was given to Healy Thompson of the Misfits. Thompson scored team highs in points and rebounds with 13 & 14 respectively, making this her first double-double of the season.
