Women's - Fall 2009 - League Championship Game

BWT Men's Competitive Fall 2009 - League Champions - Red Knights

BWT's Women's League - Fall 2009 - League Championship Game was held on Sunday December 20th, 2009 at the Air Canada Centre - Toronto Raptors Main Court. The inaugural season of Basketball World Toronto’s Women’s League came to a thrilling end with the Monarchs playing the Mercury.  The game was highly contested to the end with both teams giving it their all for the right to call themselves Champions.

The Monarchs were led by their inside-outside scoring combo of Julie McGoey (#32) and Katie Murray (#9), who paced their team with 8 and 11 points respectively in the first half.   The Mercury countered with a balanced approach to their offence with 3 players Kash Labaziewicz (#12), Bonnie Biscoe (#21) and Ange Mkibay (#32) contributing to the scoring effort in the first half.  The score at the intermission showed the Monarchs holding a slight 5 point lead, 21-16. Minutes into the second half it appeared as if the Monarchs halftime adjustments had taken effect as they took their defense up a notch and limited the Mercury to only 13 points in the half. The Mercury tried to keep things close with Ange Mkibay (#32) leading the way with 9 second half points, including a late 3-pointer to keep things interesting.  But it was too little to late with the inside-out punch of McGoey and Murray leading the way with 8 points each in the second to seal the victory and cap off a great inaugural season. As the seconds ticked down to double zero’s the scoreboard showed the Monarchs as being the victors by a score of 42-33 and crowned  BWT Women’s League Champions.

Congratulations and thank you to all the players who participated in BWT’s Women’s Fall League 2009 and we look forward to seeing you all in BWT’s Women’s Winter League 2010 starting in January.
