Men's Competitive Winter 2008 - League Championship Game

BWT Men's Competitive Summer League Champions Red Knights

BWT's Winter 2008 Men's Competitive Championship Game was held on Monday April 14th, 2008 at the Air Canada Centre - Toronto Raptors Home Floor. The game featured the East Division Champion - Assassins vs. the West Division Champion - Gunners.

The evenly matched game featured the run and gun style approach of the Assassins vs. the balanced Gunners attack whose inside and outside game was the reason why they dominated throughout the playoffs. The Assassins broke out to a quick lead behind baskets from East Division MVP – Omar Simpson (#23) and the slashing plays of Tremayne Jackson (#5). The Gunners countered behind a solid inside game from Devon Smith (#5) and the quick Kevin Watson (#3) leading the break. At the half, the Assasins led 35-22.

As the second half got under way, the Gunners started to make a strong push to close the gap behind a barrage of baskets from Michael Allicock (#15). But just as the Gunners started to get warm, Omar Simspon, started to heat up. Combined with the inside dynamic duo of Simpson and Shenez Wright (#34), the size and power of the Assassins started to take its toll on the Gunners. The Assassins started to wear down the height of the Gunners. As the final whistle blew, Assassins had kept the lead and took their first BWT Men’s Competitive League Championship with a score of 63-52.

The Championship Game MVP went to Omar Simpson (#23) shooting 7 for 9 for a total of 20 points and 6 rebounds.

Congratulations and thank you to all players who participated in the Winter league this year and we look forward to seeing you all in the summer season.
