Men's Competitive Summer 2007 - League Championship Game

BWT Men's Summer League 2007 - Champions - Raptors

On Saturday, August 25th, BWT’s Men’s Competitive Championship Game was held at the Air Canada Centre – Toronto Raptors Practice Court. The game was a thrilling conclusion to a very competitive summer season of men’s competitive basketball games at BWT. The game featured the Central Division Champion - Raptors vs. the West Division Champion – Urban Knights. The game started with some nerves and over excitement as both teams struggled to find their range on the Raptors Practice Court. However, after settling down, the teams started battling it out but neither squad was able to build any big lead. The Raptors were lead by Matthew Koller (#18) and Michael Allicock (#11) who slashed through the defense of the Urban Knights. On the other side of the game, the Urban Knights used a consistent inside and outside game plan which featured a heavy dose of working the inside game featuring Yoosrie Salhia (#31) and Wayne Fairclough (#24) while threatening from outside by Marvin Binney (#15) and Kadeem Stephens (#1). As the half came to a close, the Raptors had built a 6 point at 26-20.

During half time, BWT presented awards to the Central Division – Consolation Champion – Black Knights, the Central Division MVP – Simon Farine from Team Quagmire and the West Division League MVP – Michael Husbands from Team Heart. Also during the half, one lucky fan won an autographed T.J. Ford basketball which was donated by the Toronto Raptors Basketball Club.

As the second half got under way, the game picked up where it left off. The teams exchanged leads several times as the Urban Knights worked to their strength inside. A dynamic inside scoring combination of the Urban Knight’s Yoosrie Salhia (#31) and Wayne Fairclough (#24) started putting some points on the board with17 points between them in the second half alone. But as good as the Urban Knights game was on the inside, the Raptors outside combination of Matthew Koller (#18) and Michael Allicock (#11) started to get hot. The duo scored 23 points in the second half and helped the Raptors build a lead going into the dying seconds. As the clock winded down, the Raptors had built a 9 point lead and took the Men’s Competitive Division Title 59-50. Congratulations to the Raptors.

The Championship Game MVP was awarded to Michael Allicock (#11) of the Raptors who finished with 19 points, 4 steals, 7 assists and 9 rebounds.

A special thanks goes out to both teams for an exciting game. See you all next season.
