BWT Men's Competitive Summer League Champions Red Knights

BWT's Men's Fall League 2009 Championship Game was held Sunday December 20th, 2009 at the Air Canada Centre - Toronto Raptors Main Court. The game featured Eastern Conference Champions – Ronin vs. the Western Conference Champions (and Summer 2009 Champions) – Red Knights. The game was highly contested game featuring two highly competitive teams with talented ball players.

The Red Knights started off hot with some hot shoorting and fast break baskets by Chris Blackwood #3. Combining the guard play was Red Knights inside duo of Tom Romas #34 and Matthew Bassett-Spears #32. Counteracting that was Ronin who was led by Jerome Roberts #23 and Derek Alexander #21 who helped keep Ronin close and actually built a small lead to close the half ahead at 30-27. In the second half it became a matchup of the Red Knights Chris Blackwood #3 vs. Ronin's Anthony Alexander #11 who went back and forth scoing repeatedly for their respective teams. However, in the end, it was Blackwood who scored 17 points in the second half and lead his team to the victory. Finishing wtih 30 points, 2 steals, 5 assists and 2 rebounds Blackwood led Red Knights to a 62-49 win and collect the MVP Honours. Red Knights become's BWT's first repeat champion in BWT's Men's Competitive League.

BWT Summer League 2009 Men's All Star Champions

BWT's Men's Fall League 2009 All-Star Game was held on Sunday December 13th, 2009 at the Air Canada Centre - Toronto Raptors Main Court. The game featured the East All-Stars vs. the West All-Stars as well as a 3PT Contest at Halftime.

The game started off quickly with the East All-Stars breaking out to a quick lead behind a strong inside play and presence from Vaughan Daley #24, Robert Shaw #32 and Oshin Zargarian #21. The West countered with slashing guard play from Anthony Alexander #21, Daniel Currie #24 and Chris Akelaitis #1. It seemed as the teams were just starting to feel each other out as both squads had balance play from starters and players coming off the bench. As the first half continued, the West started to make up the deficit and take a small lead by halftime 35-31.

3-POINT CONTEST
At half-time, BWT's 3-Point Contest took place. In the first round, the 3PT contest featured head to head matchups between the top three 3-PT shooters in each division. From the East Division, the participants included Matt Koller (37.0%), Sean Douglas (41.0%) and Louis Moore (46.70%). From the West Division, the shooters included Devon McDonald (38.9%), Matt Kokish (41.7%) and Chris Blackwood (46.6%). After the first round, we had two players moving on to the second round - Matt Kokish and . In the second and final round, Matt Kokish showed why he was such an integral part of his team's (Red Knights) success this season as he hit at a total of 18 3-PT’s. Congratulations to Matt Kokish in becoming BWT’s Men’s Competitive Fall 2009 - 3PT Contest Champion.

As the 2nd half got under way, the East All-Stars had to get back on track and gain momentum for the second half. behind a balanced attach from Jeff Bolton #8 and Robert Shaw #32, the East started to chip away to the West's lead. However, the West was just too strong. Behind scoring from every play on the court and on the bench, the West built a lead and never looked back to secure the win 69-50. MVP honours went to Daniel Currie #24 who finished with 12 points, 3 steals and 4 rebounds.

Men's Competitive League - Fall 2009 - Player of The Week - Week 10

BWT Men's Competitive Fall 2009 League - POW - W10 - Chris Blackwood

Basketball World Toronto's - Player of The Week - Week 10 was awarded to Chris Blackwood of the West Division's Red Knights. Blackwood scored a season high 37 points to help his team close out the season with a big win. Combined with 11 steals, 15 assists and 7 rebounds, Blackwood secured his first triple double of the season as his team defeated KCAA in a dominant fashion. Blackwood leads the division and league with 24.3 points per game. He also leads the division in steals per game at 4.9 and assists at 7.6 per game. His team will look to continue their streak as they enter into the first round of the playoffs. Congratulations and good luck.

BWT Men's Competitive Fall 2009 League - POW - W9 - Daniel Currie

 

Basketball World Toronto's - Player of The Week - Week 9 is awarded to Daniel Currie of the West Division's Roc Boyz. Currie scored 21 points in helping his team to a big win over Vytis. Currie combined his scoring with 3 steals, 4 assists and 3 rebounds. Currently 4th in the division, the win over the 3rd place team helped Roc Boyz get close to locking up 4th place in the division. Currie is currently 8th in scoring in the division and 6th in steals and 6th in assists in the division. Congratulations and good luck this week.

BWT Men's Competitive Fall 2009 League - POW - W8 - Leroy Bascombe

 

Basketball World Toronto's - Player of The Week - Week 8 is awarded to Leroy Bascombe of the West Division's Prince and the Revolution. Bascombe scored 23 points to go along with 4 steals, 4 blocks, 1 assist and 13 rebounds to lead his squad to their first win of the season. Bascombe is 2nd in scoring in the West Division with 20.2 points per game and is overall 3rd in rebounding. Bascombe will look to continue his team's success when they face 2nd place Ronin. Basketball World Toronto's Player of the Week - Week 7 - goes to Yohannes Teowolde of the West Division's Quiet Storm. Yohannes scored 26 points to go along with 3 steals, 1 assist, 1 rebound and 5 assists in a big win over East Coast. Yohannes is averaging 11.7 points per game and 6.5 rebounds per game. His team will need him to be firing on all cylinders as they face Vytis this Sunday. Congrtulations and good luck this week in the game.

Basketball World Toronto's Player of the Week - Week 6 - goes to Cameron Eby of the East Division's Goonies. Cam led his team wtih 22 points, 3 steals, 3 blocks, 4 assists and 14 rebounds in a dominant win over Man Overboard. Eby is 10th overall in scoring and rebounds in his divison. Cam will be called upon again in next week's matchup with the undefeated Verbul's Crew squad. Congratulations and good luck next week.

Basketball World Toronto's - Player of The Week - Week 5 is awarded to Devon McDonald of the West Division Quiet Storm. Devon scored 31 points leading his team to a large victory against KCAA. McDonald combined his point total to go along with 2 steals, 5 assists and 10 rebounds in the 83-54 victory. McDonald is currently 8th in scoring in the West Division. McDonald will need to help lead his team this coming Sunday as they face off against the division leaders - Ronin. Congratulations.

Basketball World Toronto's - Player of The Week - Week 4 is awarded to Robert Shaw of the East Division Goonies. Robert scored 21 points leading his team to a narrow victory over the Hawkeyes. Shaw added 2 assists and 10 rebounds in the 68-65 victory. Shaw is currently 5th in scoring and 2nd in rebounds in the East Division. Shaw will look to help continue his team's success when the team faces KPMG next weekend. Congratulations and good luck next Sunday.

Basketball World Toronto's Week 3 Player of the Week goes unanimously to Anthony Alexander of the West Division's Ronin. Anthony scored a game high 33 pts leading his team to a close victory over perennial contenders Vytis. Alexander also added 5 steals, 5 rebs and 4 assists in the 73-71 victory. Anthony currently leads the West Division in scoring and steals and hopes to continue his strong play when his 1st place team plays an important Week 4 matchup vs. the veteran laden East Coast squad. The West Division’s – Chris Blackwood (#3) from the Red Knights was selected as the Player of the Week for BWT's Men's Fall League 2009 - Week 2. Blackwood was instrumental in his team's second victory in as many weeks. Chris tallied 31 points and contributed 5 assists and 4 steals in the 70-58 Red Knight win over the Quiet Storm. Trailing at the half by 8 points, Blackwood led a furious comeback in the second half with his offensive prowess and defensive execution. Congratulations and good luck this week.

The East Division’s – Johnathan Goulbourne (#15) from the Gunners was selected as the Player of the Week for BWT's Men's Fall League 2009 - Week 1. Goulbourne dominated the boards in his team's win over the Outsidaz. Johnathan scored 25 points and added 15 rebounds for the Gunners' first victory of the Fall 2009 season. Johnathan hopes to lead his team to victory this week vs the Goonies. Congratulations!
