Men's Competitive Fall 2008 - League Championship Game

BWT Men's Competitive Summer League Champions Red Knights

BWT's Fall 2008 Men's League Championship Game was held on Sunday December 14th, 2008 at the Air Canada Centre - Toronto Raptors Main Court. The game featured East Division Champions’ Sound Squad vs. the West Division Champions’ – And One. The matchup featured the inside-outside scoring power of And One vs. the well balanced attack of Sound Squad.

As the game got under way, And One jumped out of the gate scoring quickly with baskets by their West Division MVP Radhi Knapp (#32) and their floor general Jermaine Pendley (#8). Sound Squad countered with its own scoring punch from inside by Mark Sparks (#33) and Darin Brock (#5) and outside shooting from Elvis Dennis (#32). As the two teams traded baskets and the lead during the first half, no team could build a substantial lead. At the half, And One led 24-22.

As the second half got under way, both teams started to settle down and attack each other. And One was led by Jermaine Pendley (#8) and Martin Gibson (#21) who slashed through Sound Squad’s defense for some easy baskets. Combined with strong inside play and a big defensive presence by Radhi Knapp (#32) And One started to build a small lead. But Sound Squad was not to go down lightly. Fighting back and shifting the momentum, Sound Squad was led by Mark Sparks’s (#33) inside game and Elvis Dennis’s (#32) sharp shooting from outside. However, And One was resilient all year and they were not going to let this one get away from them. Behind And One’s Martin Gibson (#21), who started to get hot in the second half and scored 10 points in the half alone, Gibson repeatedly broke down the defense every time Sound Squad tried to claw back into the game. On the way to being selected BWT's Playoff / Championship Game MVP, Gibson from And One finished with 17 points, 1 steal and 5 rebounds. As the game ended, And One had built an 8 point lead and won the League Championship game 53-45.

Congratulations and thank you to all players who participated in the Fall league this year and we look forward to seeing you all in the Winter 09 season.

Men's Competitive All-Star Game was held this past Saturday November 29th, 2008 at the Air Canada Centre - Toronto Raptors Practice Court. The game featured the East All-Stars vs. the West All-Stars in a competitive, fast paced game.

The West All-Stars started off quickly by attacking the East with a balanced scoring approach from Omar Simpson (#34) and keys assists made by Panyin Kyei (#5) and Chris Blackwood (#1). The West maintained the up-tempo pace by pushing the ball at every opportunity and finishing on the break. As the game continued, neither team had built any substantial lead and the teams traded baskets consistently throughout the first half. But the West were not to be denied as they continued to attack and push the tempo with a consistent scoring touch from Matthew Akelaitis (#3) and protecting the glass with key rebounding from Darryl Boucaud (#15). Moving the ball quickly and effectively, the West broke down the East defense. Leading that attack was All-Star Game MVP Chris Blackwood (#1) from the West who distributed the ball to all of his teammates at the right time and right place. Finishing with 6 points, 7 assists, 5 rebounds and 2 steals, Chris Blackwood helped his West teammates secure the win 70-64 over the East All-Stars.
